It is my belief that any project is enhanced through collaboration and integration.
So when our fearless Librarian Emily DiGiulio told me that it was
World Read Aloud Day on February 1st,
we decided to team up and make an entire day celebrating picture books.
Our first idea was to inspire reading. But how? I know many children love the site “Story Line On Line”.
Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
We thought, well maybe we could do that too but instead of famous actors, we would have each class champion a book and read as a class. Our students can use technology to support and publish their own stories for our community (and others) to enjoy too!
Along with the read aloud and movie making, students worked on a mural in the Library.
You can see their creative work next time you visit the FES Library.
They also worked on creating take home bookmarks celebrating World Read Aloud Day.
Students Tweeted out their process throughout the day.
